Web 2.0 Sticker Button Effect in Adobe Illustrator
Here I am going to start teaching you another effect which is very use to. So, today we will discuss how to create Web 2.0 Sticker Button in Adobe illustrator. Its very common button style but still very attractive for webmasters. These following steps are very detailed to make this tutorial more easier than others and you also also discover new features of Adobe illustrator.
Now come on! And lets start playing with Adobe illustrator to create our new and cool effect. Please follow these following steps to get exact results. Let me show you the final result of this tutorial to know what we gonna do now.
Step 1:
Lets start with creating New layer (Ctrl+N) and then configure the art board size (1024px x 768). By the its not necessary you can use any unit of size as you like.
Step 2:
Our next step is to create Sphere using Ellipse Tool (L). After selecting Ellipse Tool (L) when you click on art board a popup box will appear and ask for the size. You just need to give the size as (360px x 360px). You can use any color but I use #29ABE2 and None outline.
Step 3:
Well I am using Rectangle to cut the sphere from its right top corner. We can use also Pen Tool (P) but rectangle is good to measure and describe the angle. I use (300px x 80px) Rectangle with #8CC63F color and left click on the rectangle to rotate at 45 degree angle. (Left Click > Transform > Rotate > 45 degree.)
Step 4:
Now take this rectangle over to this sphere.
Now select both shapes and Divide using Pathfinder Tool.
keep selecting both shapes, left click and ungroup these shapes and remove the outer area of the sphere which is in green color.
Now you can see the exact shape, how is it looks like after removing the extra area. Lets rotate the green layer as you can see in [b] diagram.
Step 5:
Your next turn is to open Layers (F7) as you can see the following diagram [a]. Now listen carefully its important, select the blue sphere and Copy (Ctrl+C) and then Paste in front (Ctrl+F) 2 times. Now select green area Copy (Ctrl+C) it and then Paste in front (Ctrl+F) just once. Well now you will see no change in artboard but you can see alot change in Layers.
Now invisible 1st and last layers, select the 2nd layer as you can see in the image below. Then go to Effect > Path > Offset Path. Offset Path option box will appear on the screen now set the offset (-5px) and click OK as you can see. You next turn is to open again Effect > Blur > Gaussian Blur and make the radius 8px and then OK.
Step 6:
Now select the blue sphere then goto Effect > Path > Offset Path give the value of -5px offset then OK and also change the color of this layer I use white color. Now goto Object > Expand Appearance. After all this now select the white and blue both sphere layers.
Use Pathfinder to minus the front layer from behind layer and then you will see the results as below.
Now Crop this layer from its edges as like you can see below.
Step 7:
Now again you have to do the same effect as you do before with this below layer. Effect > Blur > Gaussian Blur > Radius 8px. After all this process open the Transparency (Shift+Ctrl+F10) and change the opacity to 40%.
Active (visible) all layers from Layers (F7) and you will see the results.
Now you can add any kind of text what you want.
Step 8:
Now add some Gradient (G) to green layer, add any color gradient to blue layer as you want.
Final:
Finally we have very refine sticker button. Now you can make different styles of button using shadow as blur and gradient.
